The first international conference in Sudan

At the opening ceremony  on 19th December Prof. Siddig Ibrahim Khaleel showed that the changing eating habits and life style due to urbanization increased the prevalance of hypertension in Sudan .Our eating habits are changing from traditional food to eating fast food, diets with refined carbohydrates ,high salt cotent,saturated fats with minimal physical activites ,smoking and diabetes. With these risk factors hypertension is the major cause for heart and brain attacks.

Consultants from different discipline   spoke in  various perspectives and findings related to hypertension. Special consideration was given for hypertension in pregnancy as well  as in children. During the conference many researchers and scientists shared their experiences.

Prof. Hassan Abu-Aisha stated that 87% of people in Khartoum are inactive with no physical exercise. He stated that  as minimum half an hour physical exercise per day is required and he  has registered Sudan Safe Exercise For All(SEFA).In fact he made all attendees in the conference to stand up and perform few exercises .

 

 

The conference  concluded that much awareness is needed in this country about hypertension, the silent killer
